Bathroom mold tip

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for Residents to struggle with mold in their bathrooms. The one downside to being able to take baths or showers everyday is that it subjects your home to a consistent supply of moisture in the air. So what can you do to limit or completely get rid of the mold starting on the bathroom ceiling? Run the fan!

It may seem like a simple answer, but the best thing to keep the moisture from creating mold is to remove the moisture. So make sure to ALWAYS run your bathroom fan when dealing with water. And yes… even those quick showers.

Every bathroom managed by AAH should have a bathroom fan, usually it comes in the form of a secondary switch next to your bathroom light. If you your bathroom fan is not working, please place a maintenance request ASAP. If you are interested in converting your bathroom light and fan to an all-in-one system, please place a maintenance request and our team is more than willing to replace the current system with those nice all-in-one lights that automatically turn on the fan so you don’t have to!

What to do with the mold right now?-

If you already see the discoloration of the mold on the ceiling, don’t panic. All you need to do is go to your local store and buy a mold cleaning spray. Just spray and clean off the spots, BUT please note that you will still see the spot even when cleaned. Mold will stain your paint, so do not panic if your mold spot doesn’t disappear. Once your current issue is resolved and you no longer struggle with mold, our team is more than willing to come in and paint the spots or even just supply you with a little paint to get rid of all the staining!

Cleaning your exhaust fans

Is your bathroom /kitchen exhaust fan sounding or acting funny? –

Please remember just like the ceiling fans in your bedroom or the box fans you use on a hot day, you have to make sure to dust! Your exhaust fan above the stove, and the fan inside your bathroom for moisture control also gets loaded with dust. As Residents, we need to make sure to regularly pull the grate off your machine to gently wash with a little dish soap. Once completely dry, reinstall and voilá!

Smoke Detectors

Do you hear that constant beeping sound?-

That could be the sound of your smoke detector’s battery getting low. Usually your smoke detector is either hard wired into the electricity or it is battery operated, and is running on a 10 year battery. If it starts to make that beeping noise, its just time to change the battery!

You can purchase a 10 year battery at your local hardware store. Or even online!

Flipping a breaker

The following video will show you how to flip/reset a circuit in your home that has popped.

Keep in Mind you may trip a circuit if:

  1. An item you plug in is going bad and drawing to much power, dryer is a good example
  2. You have to many things plugged into the outlets on the same circuit. For older homes you may need to routinely unplug one countertop appliance to use another. Older homes are build for all those Ninja appliances. 🙂
  3. There is an electric issue in your home. If you flip your breaker, and it immediately re-breaks, give it a few minutes to cool down and flip again. If this continuous then give us a call!

When in doubt give us a call, we will walk you through the process, and after trying to reset it on your own, a tech will be sent your direction.

How to Maintain a Garbage Disposal Unit

  1.  Make sure to run the unit on a regular basis (Weekly) even if you choose not to use it in your daily usage. Just turn on the water, and run the unit for a few seconds. This will prevent the unit from rusting and breaking.
  2. If it has a smell, make sure you are doing a routine cleaning of the unit. We recommend cleaning at least 1x a month.  To clean: Put a handful/cupful of ice and a fresh lemon in your unit, run your water and turn on the unit. Let it run long enough that it no longer sounds like it is working to grind the ice. That’s it.
